Founding Principles
UHI was founded on 3 main principles:
1. Ending the cycle of extreme poverty
- UHI is focused on changing lives! Changes that will be felt for generations by bringing people out of extreme poverty.
2. Building Partnerships
- UHI strives to build partnerships between communities in the United States and communities in the developing world. In this effort, all UHI funded projects are run and managed by community-based organizations. In addition, UHI makes long term commitments to its funded projects.
3. Financial Accountability and Transparency
- UHI is committed to the ideas of financial accountability and transparency. UHI strongly believes that a non-profit organization should have extremely low administrative costs. In accordance with these ideas:
- UHI is managed and operated by an all-volunteer staff.
- UHI strives to keep administrative and fundraising costs low.
- When possible, we allow donors to designate where they would like their money spent.
